This is a 3-shot sequence. In the first two shots I was focused on the Nextel boat. Somewhere between the1st & 3rd shot, I realized that something was going on with the yellow boat, and I managed to lock in on that one in the3rd shot. In shot one, it kind of looked like a strap had come loose on the yellow boat. In shot #2, it was apparent that the yellow boat was in trouble, as the "strap" had detached, and it was apparent that smoke was coming from the engine, or the supercharger. In shot #3, the strap is apparent as the serpentine belt for the supercharger. Little pieces of rubber are also visible against the rooster tail, and the front of the boat is beginning to settle in. The Nextel boat in this sequence finished at over 200 MPH!

The boats may be fast, but it was the shutter speed that was really humming here. Very good job in stopping the action.

Thanks for all of the nice comments.

In answer to your question, it was the belt that drives the supercharger. Those are really wide, and long belts, and when one of those goes, there's a major loss of horsepower, and a significant loss of $$$$, as these are very expensive as belts go.

Yeah, those belts can go over $200 easy. My next door neighbor races those things. He blew his motor at the very event these great pics were taken.

I've got a pic somewhere of him blowing a belt as well. But it's not nearly as nice as these pictures.
