Took these at a JV game this past Saturday. I certainly enjoyed having sunlight instead of stadium lights. Comments / Criticisms welcome:

Thanks guys!

The one team is Mentor. But the other is Eastlake North from Lake County.

style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #000000"As for the lens - I used a Sigma 70-200 2.8 with Sigma 1.4 TC. Another bonus of shooting a daytime game - I got to use the TC

Zak,

These particular shots were taken with a 20d, 70-200 2.8 plus 1.4x TC. I shot in Av mode wide open (f4 with the TC). A number of people shoot sports in manual or Tv mode but I prefer Av. It's rare that any sporting venue will provide equal lighting throughout so I prefer to use Av so I always have the most bokeh and the fastest shutter with proper exposure. Also with these shots I had to dial in some negative EC so the highlights weren't blown out.

Hope that helps you!

Yes I understand what you said and thanks very much but the most of my interest was a shutter speedand it was only missing thing. Since the shutter speed determinates the blur on sport picture can you maybe find that information on your photo and get back with the number but I think it was a big one....also what ISO did you used.

Thanks and reagards Zak

Zak,

These pics were at ISO 200 I believe. My goal when shooting sports is a minimum shutter speed of 1/400. So, after dialing in aperture, I'll start ISO at 100 and keep moving up as necessary to achieve that 1/400. Other people prefer a slower shutter speed and use a panning technique to further blur the background but I'm not that advanced yet.

Now, the last nighttime game I shot under lights I had to use f2.8, ISO 3200 to get the 1/400 shutter speeds I was looking for. Noise reduction software can clean those up pretty well, but your ability to crop an ISO 3200 image is pretty much nill.

Still other folks like to use a flash but the few times I tried it, I didn't much care for the results (probably lack of skill on my part) - the biggest flaw with flash use is the recycle time can't always keep up with a burst.
