Grumman Hellcat
this one's actually an F-4FWildcat... or "Martlet", as it would be called in these British markings. the Hellcat had wings mounted at the bottom of the fuselage, not sticking out of the middle, and the landing gear was wing-mounted, not the spindly "fold-into-the-fuselage" kind used in the Wildcat. the Wildcat wasn't nearly as good a fighter as the Hellcat, but early in the war, it was the best we had, and it managed to at least hold its own until the better planes became avaialble.

great shots, though... that P-51B is a rare model! most of the mustangs you see these days are the later "D"models with the "bubble" canopies.
