Important game. This morning her dad said "For this game only, if you get a goal, there's $50 for you."

Forty-seven seconds into the game....

Great shot.

The story irks me though. I used to be a teacher (middle school) and coached soccer for 24 years and never thought much about the use of money as a motivator for school grades or athletic performance.

I also coached for a long time and heard this same story many times. It is just a way parents can participate. If it was not money that was given to motivate then everyone would have said it was great. Should we not reward the kids with trophy's at the end of the year for good grades and winning events? Money / Trophy it is the same. At least with the money the parent feels involved and is involved with something their kid is doing positive.

Just my Opinion.

Off my horse.

Good picture!

Great Shot, My boy's 10 and he's excited about $1 a basket. Best couple of bucks i've ever spent. I guess when he's older a dollar won't mean much, but now it does!

My personal experience was kinda negative. My youngest daughter, when she was 6, remarked that other daddies gave their daughters $5 for a goal. I said, we'd try it one game.

Five goals.Forgot about passing, about defense, only wanted to put the ball in the net. Never again.

BTW, I am a middle school teacher, and I don't care what it is that motivates kids to learn. "No pass, no play" works great. Some teachers think it's demeaning that kids pass only so they can play sports. I don't care. If that motivates them to learn, great. I've paid for pizza parties, and I'll do it again.

One year...

"You know, you're very smart, and you get terrible grades because you do very little."

"I know. I just don't care."

"I'd sure like to see you do just one grading period, putting some effort into it. That would be something special for me."

She passed the rest of the year. You never know what the payoff is for them, but if you can find it, it changes everything.
