Took these tonight at the local ski slope while out with the youth from our Church.

Remember this is England and it was only 3.5 deg C (must be crazy).

KM 5D, Sigma 70-200 f2.8, 3600 HS External Flash.

Enjoy!!

Not one of our youth, but one of the staff..... I just loved the expression.

Mark,

I keep checking out your work since we have the same camera. I am still learning and enjoy seeing your photos. Keep em coming. I want to get the sigma lense but must wait a little. Anyway my only issue is sometimes I dont get the crips shots that you do any thoughts?? I am getting better but not great like you yet.

Hi Tammie,

A lot comes down to different techniques depending on the environment. In low light situations as in most of the shots here I will pre focus on the point where I intend to take the shot and then follow the subject until it gets there. For this I use the AF-A mode for focus (you could alsouse AF-S). The reason you need to do this is that the contrast is low and the auto focus struggles, especially with a moving target. Remind me which lenses you have as I might be able to suggest some settings that could help.

Another thing when shooting sport in good light is to select and individual focus point (I usually use one of the 2 either side of middle so that the subject is moving into the frame, rather than using the centre point). For sports I would not use multi point as it will confuse the camera and you will often get the background or a closer player.

Oh, I would not say that I was great in any way, rather like you I am learning and just a bit further down the road. When I can make a living from this then I will be getting closer to being great...... can't see that happening though.... lol.

Hope that this helps.

Mark.

Mark, those are awesome!! That looks like ALOT of fun.

BTW - i don't know if you remember but i posted some basketball pics earlier this month and one you commented onwas a picture of the team "piling on" after they won the state championship. you said that was the kind of pic they liked to print in the paper. well i thought of you the next day when there was a pic just like it in the paper (not mine of course!). Smart guy! :-)

Also I am going to post a "what camera to buy" soon and i want your input!
