Hi All,

I was using this an opportunity at the beach to try out my 2 x Tele Converter with my Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 making it a 140-400 f5.6 (or 196-600mm in 35mm terms).

I was not sure what to expect, but I must say I am reasonably happy with the results. AF was a little slow and it did not always keep good focus in AF-C, but was manageable. Don't think I would want to print any larger the 8" x 12". Also the lighting was a nightmare as it was almost directly behind the riders so had to over expose to reduce the silhouetting. Another thing I am not on my usual machine so having to use Gimp which I don't think gives such a good USM or resize.

What do you recon?

Mark

Very nice shots Mark. You look as if you were right in the thick of the action. I just picked up a 2x tc during the week and was quite impressed with the auto focus when i tried it on my 20D and the picture quality is better than i expected. I'm off to see some more motorbike racing today and will post some shots with the 2x tc later. I will also try and get a few shots with slower shutter speeds, which you asked about last week.

kite boarders are NUTS. when hurricane katrina passed by us(gulf coast of fla.) we had some gnaaarly waves and there were about 15 kiteboarder in the lineup with us surfing. they would launch off a wave and get 20-30 feet easyyy. so cool.

i love these shots.. where were they taken?

Sure are crazy........ I broke my leg in 3 places about 6 1/2 years ago by hitting the beach too hard after a jump on the land. I have given up now and hide behind a lens.... much safer!!!

If you think 20 foot is crazy have a look at this clip where renowned kitesurfer Top Hat is being interviewed and it goes wrong for another surfer when a gust/up draft grabs him http://www.loiclemeur.com/video/hawaii-airtime.wmvand he does not even break a bone!!!!

I took these shots justoutside Southampton on the South coast of England which is why I was having lighting probs.
