Tried to capture a little of the intensity of the game of Rugby. Attached is a friend of mine Mike going up forthe ball.

Very different - I like it. Tell me though, what exactly are his teammates doing by holding his shorts? (seriously - I don't follow the sport so I'm honestly curious).

In a line out, you have 2 big guys that pull up a small guy to catch the ball. They lift the small guy by the shorts. Yeah, brutal... but it's the sport!

Further to wrestlinboy's comment - the line out is used when the ball has gone out of play and is a way of getting the ball back in and allowing both teams to compete for it. It used to be that the catcher just jumped and was not allowed to be lifted in any way. Now, each jumper has two lifters either side of him who grab his shorts and lift as he jumps. This enables him to get much more height and stay aloft for much longer than before. Normally two shorter, stockier guys are the lifters, with the tallest players being the jumper. It's a very technical area and very difficult to get right, especially as pretty much everyone in the lineout is allowed to run all over before the ball gets thrown in.

Also especially because if the lifters don't get things right, the jumper not only ends up without the ball, but also potentially gets a serious wedgie!

Great shot W-boy: I think your aim of "capturing the intensity of the game" is well achieved.

Thanks! I appreciate the comments. It's always nice to see what other people have to say!

If you want to see any of my other rugby pics. I have them on the Eau Claire Rugby Page that I created. I am really getting into photography, and if anytone has ideas, etc how to make shots, etc better... I would love to hear them!

Peace!
