Not too shabby!

The only improvement I could think would be to blur some of the background after the fact using photoshop.

Correct call is OUT - but it depends on the angle the umpire has.

Nice shot. As Terry mentioned, backgrounds are a pain in the butt. Only choice is to use photoshop as he suggested or pay big $$$ for a 2.8 lens.

Backgrounds. Backgrounds. Backgrounds.

Backgrounds are always a pain in the neck for kids sports.
On most fields it's impossible to get away from crappy ones.
Cars... Other fields... Out houses... UFOs... Buildings...
Ive got great pictures of 'em all.
PS blurring later usually looks like an after thought.
But what-a-gonna-do?
