I suspect the awfully slow f/6.9 at the long end of the zoom isn't helping IQ at all (my scraggy old Fuji J100 manages f/5.1 at 5x...)- having to resort to elevated iso settings to "get the shot"....
That said, this is a basic P+S and I'm sure no-one is expecting miracles from such a model.
However, I still question the merits of a 16mp sensor in a P+S given its target use- which would probably be general snapshots for sharing on the web or occasional prints up to A4 or thereabouts. Isn't 10mp enough...?
I remember many years ago a camera of mine- a Panasonic FZ20- had no markings anywhere on the camera that gave away its megapixel count, which I thought was kinda cool...
It took pictures.... end of....
