I found a stand for background lighting. It doesn't come with a light. The picture shows like a flash on it. What kind of light is best for the background? I worked in a studio years ago and we had a different kind of light it was round and you could but gels over it. Please help.

mom (we've got to stop meeting like this...), I don't know what the best light is for the application. Whatever it is, it should match your other lights for type. Like, if you are using a continuous lighting arrangement with tungsten (incandescent) bulbs, you should probably use the same type of bulb for the background.

If you want a fairly cheap light that you can use colored gel filters with, check out a local party supply store. I have some lights that are made for this. My uncle sent them to me from a place in Hollywood. The lights are called "Party Par Cans" from American DJ. They have a web site: www.americandj.com and come with a gel holder.
But, as I said, you might be able to find something similar locally.

Hopefully, someone else can provide a better answer.
