What you must consider is that most digicams have relatively weak flash units and their range is quite limited. The flash range also decreases rapidly if you have the zoom in any focal length longer than wide angle. So what happens is that subjects beyond 7-8 feet are illuminated more by the ambient room light. If that light is incandescent the pictures will be yellow tinted, if the lighting is fluorescent then you will see a bluish-green tint.
