Default Rigging for toy ships in flight?

Hi wanted to get some ideas for rigging or other in positioning planes and spacehips in flight to make a fight scene for example. I've seen how to photograph people on a stool and photoshopping the stool out to make them look like they are levitating. but I would like to get ideas on how to position the planes and ships to get the angles of flight paths etc...My son and I playing around with this. are their tuturials out there, I haven't come across any in flight just ground based toys. thanks

My best guess would be to use a green or blue sheet for a background, and the same color string to hang the models, using two or three pieces to get the positioning correct. shoot the models and then key in a new background to the color or your sheet. This could work for stills or for stop motion animation (tedious, though)
