Is there a way to correct by software the chromatic aberrations "purple and blue fringing" produced by the camera? I tried to use higher f stops, Panorama tools does not help much.

Most reviews I've seen indicate that this model performs exceptionally well compared to most in the CA/Purple Fringing area, and that the Panasonic Venus II engine is designed to remove most if it.Longer focal lengths in extreme conditions seems to be where it appears more often.

You may want to try Jasc Software's Paint Shop Pro 9. It's got a CA removal feature. You can download a trial to see if you like it:
