"Any Firmware upgrade?"

I'm afraid Toshiba won't be ungrading anything since they exited the digicam business last March although they apparently waited several months to announce the departure to the public so they could dump their remaining digicam inventory.

Aside from the company is out of digicam business, I don't think you could put 1GB SD card to either PDR-M700 or M500. As far as I know, you can only use 512MB SD card at the most. I haven't heard any firmware upgrade that allows you to use 1BG SD card. I don't think there's one.
