Wildlife and sports are quite different beasts, as is shooting aircraft. For a lot of BIF and also aircraft you will be stopped down a little so the slower lens isn't an issue. For sports however having the wider apertures will make a world of difference. Shooting aircraft, especially prop driven, you want a slower shutter so the aperture is going to be closed down.

i went with f8 on these mostly becuase with fast moving targets i wanted suffient dof so got afew extra keepers - but with shooting on a bright day lens is fine - agree though that for sports or not so nice days shooting wildlife a faster lens would be nice but gets very costly getting fast long glass - more than my budget anyway

and going through the raws again found another good spitfire shot - better than the other two actually dont knwo why i missed it first run though
