Default Sunset departure for Anchorage

Departing into the evening sun from runway 27 in Cincinnati bound for Anchorage, Alaska. Nice Autumn lighting.

Nikon D300s.

That's beautiful lighting, and I love the steep angle the jet is climbing. I see no windows, so I assume it's carrying cargo. But I'm curious -- what sort of cargo would have to be sent non-stop from Cincinnati to Anchorage non-stop?

You are correct Ted...it is a B747-400 Freighter operated by Polar Air Cargo for DHL (which explains the hybrid paint scheme). DHL operates a major freight hub in Cincinnati. Therefore a lot of air cargo handled at CVG from and to the Far East connect through Anchorage which is a gateway to the Asia. Sunday evenings are quite a rush at CVG with all of DHL's freighters leaving for connections to Europe and Asia. While passenger traffic at CVG is quite dead, frieght operations on the weekend make it an exciting place to spot.

Here's a an image with a close up of that hybrid paint scheme.

Thanks for the explanation Jehan. Now it makes perfect sense!
