Stunning Lighting on this one T!

What sort of locomotive is this...a crane on rails? It looks very much like a trolley car from days gone by.

Great picture...lighting and detail are excellent. As Jehan says....what kind of train is this, what make, model ?

I do enjoy seeing these European trains....so different from Canadian trains.

Thank you Jehan and Les,

Strangely the only information I got searching the Web was that it belongs to the people (i.e not a private firm) and that it's a diesel engine. Also saw a small picture. I'll come back to that.

Passed by a couple of times to ask someone in person. No luck.

So I filled up two pipes of tobacco ("a two pipe problem" as Sherlock Holmes would have said)

My thoughts and guesses

It's a diesel (fact)

It doesn't use the ........ on the roof for it's own ......

There is a ramp on the roof.

The ramp is for people

The people standing there probably engage in repairing the electric system, checking the wires, the hubs, the connections

It's an old model. Although it seems newly painted, the paint on the roof is cracking

Now comes the wild guess. The picture I saw was of this model on it's former duty - as a passenger train.

But it seems to have been rebuilt for service purposes. And it seems that what was originally the rear end now is the front. On the picture I saw on the web it had the flat (now rear end) facing the wind

What do you think

Regards

Torgny

This is the same model but differently equipped - may be assigned for other work or may be electricity driven

Lastly the diesel locomotive from the first picture from another angle. Mystery solved? Don't know. A try anyhow

I would agree and say mystery solved. Good work Sherlock !

I agree and think this train has been converted to a service car, what with all the equipment on the roof.

As you say it was a passenger train before...put on high mileage...converted to a service vehicle where it won't put on as many miles, but still has a useful life to service railways.
