Default El Centro Airshow 2016 11 photos

El Centro is a small city in southern California. It's located between the Mexican border to the south, and the Salton Sea to the north. It's a desert environment usually sunny and warn all winter long. For that reason it's the place that the Blue Angels have chosen for their winter training facility. While visiting my parents in AZ about 50 miles away, we decided to go to the airbase to watch the airshow that officially ends their training and kicks off the Blue Angels season.

Wow, Mike, some great shots there. Especially the cycle jumping. I have that same 18-200 Sony lens which stays on my a6000 most of the time. Thanks for sharing these.

Thanks Walter.
I just picked up an a6000 last week. I had a problem with the compatibility of the 18-200 lens and the a6000. I'll pass this along to you in case your lens does not have the latest firmware. V.2 firmware provides fast hybrid AF that is available with the a6000. It makes a big difference in focus tracking. I had two 18-200LEs to compare, one updated and 1 not. Unfortunately you need to send the lens in for the update.
Hopefully your firmware is up to date.
The airshow is a great free event. This was the day after eating lunch in Julian.

Hmmm. How do you check the lens' firmware?

On the A6000;
Menu, scroll over to the toolbox (far right).
Toolbox-6-scroll down to version.
Mine indicates-
Body: ILCE-6000
Ver. 3.10
Lens
Ver. 01

From Sony:

UPDATE SEL-18200LE Firmware Update Release Date 2/19/2013 Version 02 File Size Varies
DOWNLOAD
File Description
Sony is offering a firmware update for the SEL-18200LE E-mount lens which provides Fast Hybrid AF function.
This firmware update is not available for download. The update service for this lens is provided by Sony. For further information, please contact 239-768-7547.
Note: The NEX-5R and NEX-6 camera models require firmware version 1.01 or higher for use with this lens update. Please review the update page for your camera model for firmware update information.

If you have the old firmware and your lens is out of warranty they want to charge you $166 to send it to precision camera in Texas to update the firmware.
I'm arguing that now with Sony. It's a current production lens that has had no warranty issues. Somehow according to Sony if your lens is out of warranty you don't get a free firmware update.
Go figure.

Thanks. I was relieved to find that my lens has the version 2 firmware.
