Will be in the Scottsdale area (Camelback) for a biz trip end of March and plan to take a day to go to Sedona. Looking for recommendations for areas for photographing the Red Rocks areas as well as general desert fauna & wildlife. Also, any recommendations for spots to shoot desert sunsets.

Also, any thoughts on gear? I have a Canon Digital Rebel XT with Sigma 17-70 lens (also 70-300 zoom). Other than a polarizer filter, is there anything special I should be thinking about due to the desert/sun conditions?

Thanks for your help!

While you're in Scottsdale you might want to visit the Desert Botanical Gardens. It is 50 acres with lots of rare desert flowers and plants. Do a Google search and it should be at the top of the list.

Here is a shot I took in the general area.

With only one day available, the Chapel of the Holy Cross in Sedona is a must see. Fantastic scenery all around and the architecture ain't shabby either.

The small airport on the ridge above town is a favorite spot for sunsets. Rock formations to the west with the valley in the foreground. Set the WB to "cloudy" and meter off of the sky to the side of the sun for more drama.

Have a great time,
Lou
