I was back in my old hometown (a little island in the Mississippi in Eastern Iowa) and out with my brother-in-law, when I see some birds approaching the boat.

"Those aren't...."

"Yep. Pelicans."

Warming is truly upon us.

And now, there are comorants there, too. I can remember an occasional one from time to time, but not in the numbers I'm seeing now.

It was about two years that my wife reported that a pelican flew across the road in front of her. That road is a throughway about 6 blocks from our haouse although the road also crosses a wooded creek. We lived in Louisianna for 2+ years so I'd didn't doubt her identification.

Very nice photo.

Around Sabula, you can see flights of 20 or more moving around. They go to the back lake, get in the shallows, and cooperate in a circle to drive fish to the center, and then scoop them up.
