This is known as the little fort of the fishes, and the holl that it stands on, was the site of the dark age settlement. The Normans later built a stone castle here, of which the keep and gateway are among the remnants.

Oh! As well as the preceding Saxon style, Ivery much admire theNorman stylearchitecture on the Island which is also known as Romanesque on the Continent
