Default A few more South Dakota pics

A couple of shots of Mount Rushmore, from the park and from Needles Highway.

1) From the park

2) A man by the name of Gutzon Borglum, and 400 workers, sculpted the four faces out of the granite rock. No one was killed during the fourteen years it took to sculpt the monument. The four presidents depicted are:
George Washington, because of his efforts toward democracy in the U.S.
Thomas Jefferson, because of his authorship of the Declaration of Independence.
Abraham Lincoln, because he was responsible for the end of slavery in the United States.
and Theodore Roosevelt, was chosen because of his contributions to business, conservation and the creation of the Panama Canal.

3) Another, more pleasant view of the monument

4) Another view, from a distance, from Needles Highway

5) This one I blew out the sky, so I made the whole thing black and white. This was taken from a distance off Needles Highway.

6) Last pic, totally unrelated. I don't know what this is all about, and not sure I want to, either...

Thanks for looking!

The fifth one, the black and white one, of Mount Rushmore looks like it is right out of "North By Northwest". I think the B&W treatment works really well.

Regards

Thanks, Bluenose. In case you are interested, I have included the original pic, so you see, the one I posted is heavily PP'd, and I wasn't sure how it turned out (To others).

Nice shots of the monument.

The last shot is an interesting view in it's own way

I'm sure you would love this place. I have wanted to go to Sturgis for years, and finally decided to this year. Good decision.
