Default Mountain Trip

A few friends and I met in the Sequoia National Forest last week to go hiking around for a day.
I decided to go ultra-lite and took only my Canon S-95 pocket camera.

1. On the way up I went through the Piaute Mountains from Caliente to Bodfish through the Walker Basin.

2. Rankin Ranch in Walker Basin.

3. Known as KR3. This was the third hydroelectric generator built on the Kern River. Built in the 1920s the water for the power station is diverted 18 miles up river. The pipe carrying the water to the power station goes through a series of siphons down and back up 100s of feet until it's final fall down about 800 feet.
It's quite impressive when you think of where technology (think mules) was at that time.

4. Big Meadow. Elevation 8000 ft.

5. Wildflowers between meadows.

6. Fallen tree with fishing rod attached.

7. Taylor Creek loaded with Golden trout.

8. Taylor Meadow with Church Dome peak in the distance.

9. Cannell Meadow Cabin

10. Photo stop at the turnout.

11. My turn.

Needless to say we had a great day in paradise.

Nice series Mike. SNP is on my list to visit. I like the composition on #8!
