Default Alaska - Glacier - July 2003

I would not have believed glaciers were blue until I saw them with my own eyes.

Pretty cold too. No shorts and tee shirt on this day!

Here's a computer/browser question for you. The pictures I posted, while admittedly downsized and highly compressed, look terrible when I look at the message with Internet Explorer. If I right click on the picture of me and look at properties it says 640 x 480 and 8,740 bytes? That picture is really 38KB on the web site. How can the browser reduce it from 38KB to 8KB? I hope you are not seeing what I'm seeing on my screen. Anyone know how I can fix this?

Don't just think about it - DO IT!

Our daughter was performing on a cruise ship for 9 months in 2003 and we were lucky enough to be able to join her for cruises in March to Hawaii and again in July to Alaska. While Hawaii was very beautiful there's nothing like a trip up the inside passage from Vancouver, B.C. to Alaska. Breathtaking sights. I'm ready to do it again but I doubt if that will happen. It sure was nice to do it once though.

I figured out what was happening! My internet provider is rcn.com. They provide an accelerator program to speed up the dial up connection. That program works by highly compressing data. It compressd my 38 KB image file on the web site down to to 8 KB to display on my screen. With 75 percent of the data thrown away you can imagine what I was seeing. I found that I can right click on the image and select "show original image" and I get the image displayed correctly! Big difference! 'Puters will drive you nuts.
