Yup, it's a Noordyn Norseman. It was a 'Bush Plane', used from the mid 1930's to open Canada's Northern Territories. It's still regarded as one of the best aircraft for this task ever built.

It looks all the business.

Looks like it's fitted with skis for landing on snow.

Was it ever used with wheels or pontoons?

It could be fitted with either. Hundreds of them were used by American forces during WW2 - it was designated the C64 A -to transport personnel and cargo in remote areas anda feware still in use today. Not many planes you can say that about except the DC3.

On a somewhat sadder note, theNorseman was the aircraft Glenn Miller, the famous band leader, was flying in when it was lost over the English Channel in 1944.
