Bogen 501 on a Smith-Victor?

Hey guys,

I'm looking to buy a Bogen 501 head and right now I have a pretty solid Smith-Victor tripod. I'm not sure of its exact specs, but its heavy duty, a pro-sumer tripod at least.

My question is, can a Bogen 501 be mounted on this type of tripod? Basically, is it interchangeble with most pro-tripods, or do you need a specific type to attach the Bogen to?
