I am considering a camera purchase before Christmas. I have looked at the cannon Eos 20d and the Eos 30d. The 2 major differences I see is 1) Price and 2) the size of the LCD screens. Is the newer model worth the extra $300-$400 for the larger screen.

The 30D is supposed to take 100000 shots, it doesn't make a new folder every 100 pics(that i've read), faster burst. BUt if that doesn't matter then get the 20D now and geta lense with the $$ you saved.

Difficult question.... I have the 30D but would not have upgraded to it if I was already on the 20D.

30D has more metering modes including Spot which is a big help.

Has more control over sharpness, colour, saturation etc.

Has RGB histogram as well as Luminance.

Choice of either 5 or 3fps (20D just has 5fps)

Larger buffer

Magnification of recorded view

Apart from that they are basically the same.

Which ever you chose I know you will be happy!!

Actually the biggest difference from performance point of view if the AF. Even though both 20d and 30d have the same Af sensors, the algorithms on 30d are improved so it helps a lot for someone shooting action.
