[align=left]What is the fastest Point and Shoot? I want a zoom for wildlife and scenery.

If I have to I will do away with the AA batteries, but would like to have IS also. Thanks for any response. Choosing a camera is not an easy thing to do. I was told today that there are no point and shoots that would capture a bird or running animal. The salesman told me I would have to go to a SLR.

I think your salesman is right. If you want to shoot a fast moving object, than the object has to stay at the same distance to get the object sharp on your pictures.

I heard that the Sony H7/H9 has a continous AF (like DSLR's) wich makes it easier to take pictures of moving objects, but I'm not sure that's true.

If you are SERIOUS about widlife forget any P&S (not that some aren't pretty fast) go for an entry level DSLR at least.

Again wildlife is a very demanding often near instant opportunity, and really only SLR's can do that.... and you can get by for a good little while with like a kit lens (usually 18-55mm) and one like inexpensive but decent Sigma/Tamron 70-300mm lens, maybe plus the also inexpensive, but quality 1.4x Tamron TC making the 300mm effectively near 450mm
