I want one of thease cause of the 12x optical zoom and I don't want to spend anymore then the cannon s3is goes around 319 and the sony goes around 264 both have nice zoom, could anyone tell me whats better of the 2?

I want to do nature animal pics, if that helps or should I buy a lowend SLR?

There is little difference in overall performance between the two. The H2 uses Sony Memory Sticks while the S3IS uses SD cards. If that's not a deal breaker I'd select based on ergonomics, which fit my hands better, had the most accessible controls and logical menu structures.

Do you need a DSLR? Is 430mm equiv. focal length (actually about 680mm with the available auxiliary lenses) long enough? If not then DSLR. Are you working indecent sunlight? If not then DSLR. Do you post-process and therefore could benefit from RAW? If so then DSLR.

An entry level DSLR with a long enough lens will likely run about twice the price of the two you're considering and be somewhat bulkier.
