I'm new into digital cameras (and photography as well) and I'd like to buy a compact camera for all around pics (family, events, close-ups, portraits, etc. Unfortunately, I cannot spend more than $250 for it.

I'vefound the following camera models but they may cost more than my budged allows for:

Canon PowerShot A710 IS
Canon IXUS 750
Canon IXUS 800

I've found a model named Sony CyberShot DSC-W90 as well but I've seen some complains about it being a bit too slow as some general complains about Sony screens (TFT?) freezing.

A couple extra models are the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ7 and the FujiFilm FinePix F30.

I'm sure some have better image quality, better built-in quality, easinest of use, expected camera life, etc but I have zero direct experience with those cameras.

I have to backorder whatever I need to I cannotplay with them sans buying.

What do you advice me to do buy?

The biggest bang for the buck is probably the Fuji S-700 at around $200. It has 10X of optical zoom, ISO up to 1600, and it is small for an ultrazoom. However, that is most probably larger than you desire. Next, you might want to take a look at the Sony W-55, also at less than $(US) 200.00/ The W-55 has only 3X optical zoom, but it is a very capable camera. I have attached a no flash, indoor, handheld, photo sample from the W-55.
