I am going to study abroad next year and I am looking for a small camera with great image stabilizer.

I want a really small camera so I looked into Canon sd30 and canon sd40. I still want a canon sd30 but I read some bad reviews concerning flash and image stabilizer.

What other camera under $300 will you recomend?

Basically your criteria is in conflict. Ultra-compact and optical image stabiliztion in the same breath doesn't work.

If you're in the process of camera shopping check Steve's Best Cameras list: http://www.steves-digicams.com/best_cameras.html.

Personally, if I were going abroad and had $300 to spend I'd buy a Kodak Z712. Excellent IQ, optical image stabiliztion, long telephoto capabilities in a light weight package. I have the Z612 which is a very similar though earlier camera which is still available.
