Hi my wife and I are birdwatchers and wish to buy a camera which best suits that need. We have narrowed down our choices to one of these cameras. Any advise on which would be the better nature photographers camera would be helpful. Thanks

The fuji s series is well know for having great image quality, and excellent dynamic range, epsecially handling skin tones. Many wedding photographers use this as their camera of choice. The D300, though is probably the better choice. Performance wise it's a bit quicker, with more focus points which I think would be helpful for shooting birds.

I'm not a birder but I know it takes long, fast lenses that are quite expencive. Theirfore I think it's worth noting that the D300 is one of the few digital cameras that will accept and meter with older manual focus lenses you might find on the used market.
