My daughter has used a Casio ultracompact since they first came out. Recently, she lost it. It was time to upgrade anyway, so it wasn't that much of a loss. She likes to have the camera in her purse or pocket at all times, and takes candids of her friends mostly. I was thinking of getting her a replacement, and saw the S600 announced. I like the idea of 28mm equivalent wide-angle end for her kind of snapshots, and it appears that the camera has a decent flash for an ultracompact. It claims to start up quickly. Does anyone have any experience with this camera? Is there another ultracompact that would be a serious contender for this kind of casual shooting? She also likes to shoot video clips on occasion, also of her socializing with friends.

The Nikon S600 is an excellent small camera. The Panasonic FS5 is a cheaper alternative with picture quality that's probably equivalent.
