Some Canon point and shoot (Powershot) models also allow remote shooting while tethered to a laptop. This feature used to be available on most models of Powershots, but lately Canon has limited it to only a few. Here is a link to a third party software company that has expanded features beyond those offered by the basics of remote shooting models;

PS after rereading your posts, I see you need a Mac version of software. The links above appear to only support Windows, sorry. However, the Canon software that comes with the cameras are Mac compatible.
