I am in the market for a camcorder. I want to use it for the following things:

Snowboarding/Dirtbike/Life and other action sports.

I have read about certain types such as MiniDV, DVD, Hard Drive, and hybrid camcorders. Unless there are newer options I missed the camcorders with the hard drives seem to make the most sense. When I use it for sporting events and activities I will want to record for hours. Ill want to edit these hours of filming to so something that is compatible with good editing tools. I also found camera stabilizers mainly a "Hague MMC". Stabilization is going to be important for me if I am on a boat recording a buddy wakeboarding on the back or riding down a mountain on a board hitting all kinds of bumps. I am picking up extra weekend odd jobs to buy this camera and want to make sure it is perfect. My budget will be at a max of $1000 but I would really like to spend less. Im a broke college student.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions, advice, and whatever help you give.
