Default Canon D5(first version) or T1i

I currently have a seven year old Digital Rebel and am looking to upgrade. I have a friend with a D5 with about 9000 photos on it who wants to sell it to me. He has the battery handle and two extra batteries. The unit is in pristine condition. He wants $1500. I am also looking at the T1i for $800 (body only).
I have been weighing the pro's and cons but would like to hear from some other photo enthusiasts.

Thanks- Robert Hartman

I assume you mean 5D (EOS-5D) versus D5.

The Body only price at reputable vendors of used gear for a 5D appears to be under $1500 now (including a short term warranty). Here's an example of 5D listings at keh.com:

But, the battery grip and extra batteries should be taken into consideration (as those will add value to the package).

Note that this is a full frame camera (same size sensor as 35mm film). So, any EF-S lenses you have won't work on it (since EF-S lenses are designed for models with smaller APS-C size sensors like your Rebel or the T1i you're looking at).

Whether or not it's the best choice would depend on what you want to shoot.
