Default Outdoor Photography-upgrade from point & click

Hey so I've only used the small digital point & shoot cameras before, and I am looking to upgrade to a much better photography camera for outdoor photos, and action. All I hear about are praises for the canon rebels. Any suggestions for a particular camera or brands? Thanks!

For sports/action/wildlife shooting with an entry level dSLR, Canon Rebels have the best AF system. For outdoor shooting, the XSi is very good, but if you need to shoot indoor action, the T1i can shoot at higher ISOs which allow you to use faster shutter speeds in low light. The T1i can also record video, if that's a consideration.

But there are better cameras. What's your budget?

Also, selecting an appropriate lens or lenses depends on your subject(s). Can you go into a little more detail?
  • The lens is the thing.
  • 'Full Frame' is the new 'Medium Format'.
