Default Which Compact Zoom?

I currently own a Canon 40D which is an awesome camera.
However, I do not find myself having it with me enough due to size, fear of damage or loss etc.
I will be selling my 40D and lenses and want to get an updated compact non dslr.

I take a lot of landscape and outdoor photos but would like good performance in low light as well. I also do not like to do a lot of editing as I like my images to simply reflect what I am seeing at the time of the shot.
I previously had a Sony H3 however I was not pleased with the always present purple fringing and disappointing battery life.

My requirements are:

At least 10 megapixels
Manual controls
Minimum 200 mm zoom beginging at no narrower than 35 mm
HD video would be great but not a deal breaker
High quality images a must

I am willing to wait a bit, if something great is on the horizon. Price is no object.
Thx in advance for your responses.

for a compact superzoom with some manual controls I would take a look at:

Panasonic ZS3
Canon SX200IS

the Sony H20 is a great compact superzoom too, but lacks many of the manual controls of the other 2.

if you are willing to accept a slightly larger size.
Panasonic FZ35 gives you even more control and better ergonomics.

Fossil Hunter-

Welcome to the Forum. We're glad you dropped by.

The closest camera that comes close to replacing DSLR capablity in my mind is one the M4/3 (micro 4/3) cameras like the Panasonic G-1 or GF-1.

Have a great day.
