Default Canon G11 or S90

What would you all recommend between the Canon G11 and the Canon S90? And why? Thanks again!

Hi there Karen-

Welcome to the Forum. We are pleased that you dropped by.

Both the Canon S-90 and the Canon-G-11 share the same imager on which they record their images, but these cameras are targeted at entirely different market segments.

The S-90 is designed to be small and pocketable. It has a fast F 2.0 lens and its many features are targeted at folks who want a fast very small camera, that don't need much optical zoom ( the S-90 has just 3.8X optical zoom), and who are willing to pay a premium price for that portability and speed.

In contrast, the Canon G-11 is designed to be Canon's P+S flagship that offers 5X optical zoom, a numerically high ISO capability, and it is usually purchased by folks who are not quite ready to move to a DSLR camera, but who wan RAW, and a high performance camera.

Please share with us your own camera priorities and what kind of photo you like to take, or want to take in the future. Have a great day.

Thank you Sarah,
The 2 most important features for me are image quality and little or no shutter delay (I have a toddler so capturing those fleeting precious moments has been a challenge with my old camera) I am willing to spend the amount that these 2 cameras cost. Regarding the zoom on the S90, is 3.8x awful or is it still an acceptable distance?
Also, are the video capabilities the same on both models? I do like the size of the S90-- seems if I were to go with the $500 G11, I might as well go with a beginner SLR because of the bulk of the camera!
