Default Advanced Compact ?

I m planning to buy Advanced Compact which is fully manual and have plenty of upgrade options such as wide-angle lenses, external flash.

My list is Canon S 90 & Panasonic LX3

Could someone please help me with that ?

Hello. I have a G11 and the S90 is its sleeker companion in many respects. I don't know much about the Panasonic LX3 but have heard good things. I think either the S90 or LX3 are good choices. Some more advanced photographers/professionals I am sure can fill you in on the specs etc way better than I could. Just on a side note, the S90 doesn't have the hotshoe for an external flash but the G11 does.

However, I thought you'd find this direct camera to camera comparison useful.

Well, the LX3 offers a bit better lens (less distortion etc) than the Canon S90, however this lens is limited to a 60mm equivalent at the long end versus the 105mm equivalent of the canon, which can be a bit limiting for anything besides landscapes. image quality in good light is not much different between the 2 models, but the s90 has the edge in low light at higher ISO's. Overall, I believe the S90 has the edge between the 2 models and is the more versatile choice.

The Canon G11 is worth your look if you are wanting an advanced digicam with many options and manual controls. It is physically larger than the S90, but this affords it a more ergonomic design and offers more dedicated controls. It has a flash hotshoe as well which allows you to mount any of canon's dedicated flashes (aka 270, 430exii, 580ii etc)

Only the Canon G-11 and the Panasonic LX-3 have hot shoes allowing you to mount an external flash. The G-11 and the LX-3 can accept accessory lenses, and within the month the Canon S-90 will also join the group of cameras using accessory lenses, when www.lensmateonline.com introduces their new lens adapter for the S-90.

The G-11 and the S-90 have the best high ISO capability, trailed by the LX-3. All are capable cameras. However, the Canon G-11 would be my first choice.

Have a great day, and a Happy New Year.
