Default Replacement for Canon SD790 IS

My wife's Canon SD790 IS has seen better days and I am looking for a replacement. We tried the SD1200 IS and felt it didn't focus as well as the 790 did (unfortunately it was at our sons first b-day party that we discovered this and most pictures were blurred ). Would like to keep the price around $250, no more than $300. Also I am willing to wait a little if prices will drop or a new model/better model is due out soon. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the Forum. We're pleased you dropped by.

In that price range there is the Canon SX-200 which has received very good reviews, as well as the Canon SX-120 which fared well in the reviews as well. In the SD-series, there is the SD-940, and SD-960.

Is size a consideration in your selection? It appears that it might be, but I am just guessing. If a somewhat larger camera is OK, theen there is the Sony H-20 camera, which has the best automatic mode and built-in flash unit in this class. The H-20 also does HD video, and you can zoom while filming.

Have a great day.
