Default Camcorder that works well with mac / iMovie

We are looking for a camcorder under $500 that will work well with our iMac and iMovie (we have the latest version I think). We mainly film the kids and want to easily hook the camcorder up to the mac, maybe do minor editing (cutting/rearranging clips) and burn the videos onto DVD. I heard of a sanyo that is easy with the mac but has some problems with autofocus, which wouldn't be good. I just don't want to have to convert videos to a different format to get them in iMovie... Would like to keep it as simple as possible. Any recommendations would be appreciated! Thanks!!

Have have not had any issue with a jvc GZ-HD300 camcorder's files with my 2 macs. Imovie plays them fine.
