Default Any reason not to get this Canon set up?

I've been hee-hawing around try to figure out what would be a good starter DSLR for me to purchase to cover general photos (kids, traveling, family - no real specific needs) I am leaning towards a Canon T1i with the 18-55 lens kit and also purchasing the 70-300 IS lens to cover most of everything else. At around $1300 this is pushing (overflowing) the upper limit of my camera budget.

Any other configurations that I should consider?

That will be a nice setup. It will do everything you say you want to do, and do it well.

well, I'll say there's one caveat - it wont do indoor family photo type stuff well - birthday parties, Christmas, etc. For that you'll need an external flash. What types of photos are you planning on using the 70-300 for? You might be better served going with something like the 55-250 and using money towards an external flash.
