Default Which camera for HD video?

I am looking for a point and shoot camera with good quality HD video capabilities.

I just purchased a Kodak Z950 and am not impressed with the video quality on that at all, so it's going back. One thing that it does is refocusing when I zoom in or out so the video is blurring while the camera does its thing. Of course, this is also on the recorded video. I also noticed that when I zoom in, sometimes the camera doesn't focus and remains blurry. Are there any cameras out there that don't do these things? Obviously I want my camera to be of quality all around.

I have an old Canon SD400 and like how the video works on that...no blurring during refocusing at all. However I do want something updated and better quality.

I do have another question about optical zoom. The Z950 is 10x...is that overkill? I will be using the camera for everyday stuff (family, etc); not for fancy photography. I see some higher end P&S cameras have 5x optical zoom so will that be enough for me?
