We're planning to buy my college age son a camera and are torn between the Fujifilm s1800 ($150 on Newegg) or Canon SX130 IS ($179 on Amazon). That is our max budget and they appear to be two good choices in that price range. Which would you all recommend?
I am partial to Fujifilm because I have had good luck with several of them, but I know others much prefer the Canon offerings in comparable price range. I haven't owned a Canon, so... What to do, what to do! ![]() By the way, I've come back to this site for years before buying various cameras. It is the best camera review site online. |

FujiFilm FinePix S2550HD/S1800 Review Canon PowerShot SX130 IS Review I have been using an ISO 400 image, the one with the M&M guy, flag and other things on a table, and looking for the lowest image noise, best color, and sharpness, so far the SX130 looks better, at least to me, but there are other things to think about, like zoom, battery type, camera size, Movie Mode and the quality of the movies, and usability, so yea that's were reading reviews comes in handy. I will say that some of the reviews on the internet of the SX130 indicate that battery life is poor, unless you use rechargeable batteries, and there seams to be a 10 minute limit on the video when shooting at 720p, and 720p is the highest resolution it shoots video in. |

When camera shopping, I like to check out user images at Flickr.com --just do a search for the camera model you're interested in.

Great! Thank you both for the feedback. I don't think I can do too bad on either one.
