ok so 1000d u recommend over 400d ... but how u see 400d having few technical features better than rebel xs? ... 400d having 9af vs 7 pts on the other ... absence of wireless remote option on newer model ... then 400d has better raw fps (3fps vs 1.5fps on xs) ... but 400d having just 27 frames in continuous mode vs unlimited frames on xs ... and memory card type ... n not to forget live view on xs ...

Yeah, but if it is used, you will pay more to have it fixed. So I would go with a new vs a used always. As used lens is a fine investment, but used bodies have allot of risk involved. They both have the same sensor, 400D and XS, but there is more risk as it is a much older body.

Hi Opethian ...
I am a user of Canon 1000d since last 6 months . I am very much pleased about the quality of pics which were produced by canon XS. I belongs to india and in india kitlens is NON-IS.
For beginner Canon 1000d is one of the best option . And more over for a good photo apart from dslr it really depends upon your photography skill .
Canon XS kit lens are really very good and 50mm f1.8 is a good future planning .
No dslr is perfect ..it depends how they meet your budget and neccessity ..see some my pics which i took from 1000d with kit lens .. recently i purchased canon 55-250mm lens.
