Default Sony a580 vs Nikon D7000?

I have gathered that both of these cameras use the same Sony made image sensor, so my question concerns image quality. With the same sensor in both cameras, do they offer the same quality, The Nikon costs a great deal more so I would expect it to offer better pitures to a degree, but both use the same sensor, so which is it?

They are the same senor, but each brand does their own processing formulas.
The d7000 has more features then the a580. That is where the price difference comes form. The d7000 has the more sophicated AF system with 9 cross type af point compare to the 3 from the sony. That make the d7000 AF better for action. As a result the AF of the nikon does a much better job for action. And if you can live with a 2-3 second burst only. You can take advantage of the 6fps focus burst rate vs the non focus of the sony. Nikon also has micro adjustments if the lens is back focusing or front focusing. So you can correct it a bit. And the body of the d7000 is a bit higher grade.
