^G12 has only 5x optical zoom
I need more zoom.

Well, as someone else pointed out then you'll be sacrificing low-light photos. But, if zoom is more important, than its more important

You might want to look at the Canon SX130IS with 12x zoom with a 12MP CCD sensor, and its well under your target budget. I'm not too familiar with the controls and such, but it seems to have good reviews.

OR.... This is one I've seen reviewed quite a bit...

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ40 includes a 24x Leica zoom lens and an optical stabilizer system that allows the camera to be handheld throughout the zoom range. It features both an electronic viewfinder and 3-inch LCD…

Steve's, I am sure, have feedback and or reviews for both. Something to look into. The Panasonic is more expensive than the SX130, but you should look into them both and look over feature fit as well as physical fit in your hand before deciding.
