Default Best Compact Digital Cameras (Sony Nex-5?)...

Hi Guys,
I am currently shopping for a new compact digital camera and I am trying to find out what the best one on the market is.
I have heard Sony Nex-5 is most popular and has the highest reviews regarding its capabilities and specs.
What do you think?
My biggest concern is the range of apperture and being able to take sharp pics at night (which my current, Samsung WB500 camera does not do).
Let me know please.

If an interchangeable lens camera is acceptable to you, then micro 4/3 type cameras are definitely the way to go. The NEX and PEN are both great options imho.

The Nex-5 has few external controls. Everything has to be set through the menu. A good number of users find that confusing and inconvenient. I looked seriously at the NEX-5, and ended up purchasing the Sony a33 that is a very compact, but much more conventional SLT/DSLR camera with the same imager and processor.

Size-wise the a33 is a very small amount larger than the world's smallest DSLR camera the Olympus E410. I am pleased with the performance of my a33 camera.

i'd suggest checking out the oly e-pl1. the sony NEX controls and menus were startlingly non-intuitive, and the e-pl1 can use not only the oly micro 4/3's lenses but panasonic m 4/3 lenses. the e-pl1 isn't much bigger than the sony NEX cameras, and is very reasonably priced considering what it is.
