Default Please guide me...been a while since my last camera purchase

Haven't ever had a really good camera. Last one I bought was a Samsung Digimax 4.0 megapixel. I got it because it was cheap and I was a broke college student. Ready for an upgrade after about 6 or 7 years.

  • My budget is $300 but will go up to $350 for the right one if need be.
  • Size isnt a huge issue, but the smaller the better for sporting events and concerts
  • I'd like 12+ megapixel if possible
  • Some zoom would be good, 10+?
  • Great image quality
  • Uses: sports, concerts, travel, inside/outside house
  • Low light/indoor use
Thanks for the advice people

If you want better IQ in a P&S camera, aim for less MP, not more. The current P&S cams w/ the best IQ all have 10MP (S95, LX5, XZ-1, G12, P7000, and TL500). More MP means smaller photosites which ultimately means less light and more noise.

Now you will have to choose between low light and zoom because as has been said about a million times here, you can't have both. A larger sensor and brighter lens provide low light ability and you lose both of these with a long zoom in a compact form factor.
Disclaimer: I take photos of life rather than live to take photos and my opinions of cameras are reflected accordingly.

I recommend you try the Nikon P7000.

Good zoom, good in low light, comes in around $350-$400.
